Dr. John H. Abercrombie

Dr. JOHN H. ABERCROMBIE died on July 24, 2011. Born on Dec. 28, 1930 in Little Rock, Ark., a son of the late Judge J.S. and Vesta Jane (Martin) Abercrombie. John was a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a major in zoology and a minor in chemistry and math. He then continued on to Northwestern University and finished with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1953. John enlisted in the United States Air Force and served two years before being honorably discharged in August of 1955. Dr. Abercrombie practiced dentistry for approximately 34 years before being forced to take a medical retirement due to Spinal Stenosis. John was a member of the American Dental Association, the Pulaski County Dental Association and the Arkansas State Dental Association. John belonged to the Pierce Fouchard Academy, and was a Mason and a Shriner. John was a member of Parkway Baptist Church. He also had been a member of the Pleasant Valley Country Club, where he served on the Board of Directors in 1971 and 1972. He loved to play golf, cook, and picking peaches right off the trees at Collins Round Mountain Orchard. He is survived by his wife, Mijie Matson Abercrombie; four children, Ann Jones, John H. Abercrombie Jr., Karl Abercrombie (Jody) and Pam Abercrombie; two great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Dr. Scott Abercrombie (Ann) of Boston. The family will receive callers between the hours of 6 and 7 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral will be 10 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Parkway Place Baptist Church, 300 Parkway Place Drive, Little Rock, with Pastors Steve Parker and Leslie Willis officiating. Burial will be private. Services are under the direction of Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth Funeral Home, 5800 W. 12th St., Little Rock. 501-661-9111.
