Frankie Newkirk, beloved Grammy, Mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend, passed away Tuesday, July 26th, 2011. She was born July 10th, 1944 in Little Rock to Roscoe Sr. and Frankie Dodson Keathley. Mrs. Newkirk was retired from the Pulaski County Special School District as a high school counselor. She enjoyed reading, traveling, playing games, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She graduated from the Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) in Conway with bachelors and masters degrees. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, Delta Kappa Gamma, North Pulaski Retired Teachers Association and Trinity United Methodist Church-North Little Rock. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Doug Newkirk. Cherishing her memory are her two daughters and sons-in-law, Jamie and Reid Altom and Kelly and Robbie Sherman all of Sherwood; three grandchildren, Abby Altom, Cade Altom and Rylee Sherman; two brothers, Roscoe Keathley and Bobby Keathley; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Jackson (Cliff) and Gwen Newkirk; two brothers-in-law, Chris Newkirk and Bobby Newkirk (Ida); a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A celebration of Frankie's life will be held 2 p.m., Friday, July 29th, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church-Jacksonville with Rev. Mark McDonald and Rev. Walt Garrett officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until service time, Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital or a favorite charity.
