Dale Gene "Bear" Rodgers, a resident of San Marcos, Texas since 1984, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday October 30, 2011, at Central Texas Medical Center, San Marcos after a short illness. Mr. Rodgers is survived by three sons, Guy of Sans Marcos, Mark of Bryan, Texas, Stephen of Lexington, Ky. and daughter April (Rodgers) Christie of Ithaca, N.Y. Mr. Rodgers is survived by his brother, Ray of Little Rock, and sisters, Donna Sue (Rodgers) Dillahunty of Little Rock and Judy (Rodgers) Stell of Conway. His son, Thomas David and two brothers, Donald and David preceded him in death. Mr. Rodgers is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Dale was born July 19, 1932 in Shawnee , Oklahoma to the late T.W. Rodgers and Wanda N. (McDonald) Rodgers. He is a graduate of Conway High School where he was involved in sports. Dale and his brothers also competed in Golden Gloves boxing. Mr. Rodgers honorably served for four years in the Air Force as a supply tech during the Korean War era, and was discharged with the rank of Airmen First Class. Mr. Rodgers retired from Mobil Oil, Pipe Line Division, where he worked for 33 years having spent several years in Saudi Arabia. Mr. Rodgers was a past member of the American Legion Post 144, Lions Club International and the Baptist and Presbyterian Church. Dale loved being involved in local and international charities and worked closely with an orphanage in Mexico and spent extensive time in the country. Celebrations of Dale's life are currently pending. In lieu of flowers and plants the family has set up a Dale Rodgers Memorial Fund with the proceeds going to local charities.
