Theda Fay Matthews

Theda Fay Matthews, 85, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2011, in Little Rock. She was born on October 26, 1926, in Enders, Arkansas to Effie Lena Qualls and Thomas Jerdy Brinkley. Theda was married to Jean Benton Matthews on March 21, 1947. She was a graduate of Centerville High School and Draughn's School of Business. She worked as a dental assistant and as a secretary at the Arkansas Department of Health, Pulaski County Health Department, and Little Rock City Hall. Theda was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, quilting, and shopping. Theda was a longtime member of Temple Baptist Church in Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her parents, Effie and Jerdy Brinkley; her husband of 52 years, Jean Matthews; three brothers, Dwight, Harold, and Earl Brinkley; her sisters, Lois Blythe and Wanda Tucker; and her son-in-law, Stan Ivy. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Ivy; granddaughter Ashley Beazley and her husband, Brent; granddaughter Brooke Ivy; and great granddaughter, Campbell Grace Beazley, all of Little Rock; and her brothers, Ed Brinkley of Pine Bluff, Joe Brinkley of Bristol, Florida, and Clyde Brinkley of Fordyce. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Briarwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their kind, gentle care of "Miss Theda." Special appreciation is extended to Dixie Rackley, Dr. Ahmed Abdelal, and the staff of Arkansas Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 14 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. Reverend Don Chandler will officiate. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Faulkner County, with Reverend Jeanie Burton officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 13, from 2-4 p.m. at Roller-McNutt.
