Miss Helen Vivian Ball

Miss Helen Vivian Ball, 96, of Little Rock passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011. She was born on Tuesday, June 22, 1915 in Ravenden, Ark., to the late Dr. Ernest Ball Sr., and Lizzie (Steadman) Ball. Miss Helen attended schools in Ravenden, Ark.; Detroit, Mich.; and Vilonia, Ark.; and graduated from Conway High School in 1933. She received a Bachelors degree in education from Arkansas State Teacher's College (Now UCA) in 1949 and a Masters Degree in education from Memphis State University, Memphis, Tenn., in 1958. She did post graduate work at UALR, Little Rock, Ark., and at Vanderbilt George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, Tenn. Her teaching career began in a one room school house in Faulkner County. She taught in northeastern Arkansas, Pulaski County schools, and Little Rock public schools. She was of the Church of Christ faith and baptized at an early age in the Spring River at Ravenden, Ark. Helen was interested in doing everything she could to help children. She is survived by her sister, Amelia Ball; niece, Lee Ann Fincher; great-nephew, Michael Chase Fincher (Mandy); great-great nephew, Brady Golden Fincher; two cousins, Mary Alice Ball and Floriene Guthrie; and a host of friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Ball Jr.; sister-in-law, Alice (Waymack) Ball; and a great-nephew, Frankie T. Beasler. Services will be held at 1 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Conway. Burial will follow at Vilonia Cemetery, Vilonia. Miss Amelia wishes to thank Dr. Larry Watkins, Dr. Mariann Harrington, and Dr. Edala Arpana and staff at Longevity Center – St. Vincent.
