Curry Walter Martin Jr.

Curry Walter Martin Jr,, age 81, of Warren, Ark., died Saturday, Oct. 22, at Wagnon Place, Warren. He was born Oct. 31, 1929, at Newport, Ark., a son of the late Curry Walter Martin Sr. and Salle Huffaker Martin. He received his education in the Newport Public School System, was a graduate of Arkansas State Teachers College and held a Master of Music Education from North Texas State University. For 33 years he was Director of band and music for the Warren Public School System. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and choir leader. He was an avid outdoorsman trapping and fishing commercially for over 40 years being famous for his fishing boats "Mama Monster and Baby Monster" and his outdoor moniker "The Coon Man." Surviving is his wife Mary Lou Poteete Martin, whom he married on Jan. 20, 1952, at Perryville, Ark.; one son, Curry Walter Martin III, Hamburg, Ark.; two daughters Shelly Elizabeth Martin, Hot Springs, Ark., and Lucinda Hemmick, Cutchogue, N.Y.; one sister, Harriett Elizabeth Martin, Los Angeles, Calif; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother Charles Martin. Memorial services 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25, at First United Methodist Church.
