William Chandler

William M. (Bill) Chandler left us on Saturday, September 10, 2011 to begin his new journey to realms so glorious we cannot comprehend them. To reach this point in his life took more than 87 years, beginning with his birth on February 3, 1924. He began his journey as he joined his parents, 2 older brothers and 1 sister. Later, 2 younger brothers arrived to join the family. Bill Chandler grew up in south Arkansas, and at an early age was called to aid General George C. Patton to finish World War II. Soon the West Coast beckoned, however after a few years there he returned to Arkansas to spend the rest of his life with Virginia Chandler, his wife of 54 years. His journey has taken them from El Dorado, to Little Rock, then Cabot, with a bit of Louisiana and Texas thrown in. Bill's parents, Ernest and Rosealee Hester Chandler, of Crossett, two older brothers, Ray "Pete" Chandler of Ken, Washington, and Curtis Chandler (Hester), of Crossett, also sister, Myrtle Vickers, of Cabot, have gone ahead to lead the way. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Ledbetter Chandler, of Cabot, his son, Ronald (Julie) Chandler, of Booneville, Indiana, his daughter, Virginia (Jenny) Lee and husband, Jay Myers, of Colville, Washington, two brothers; Ernest "Ernie" Chandler, of Cabot, and Jerry (Donna) Chandler of Augusta, Georgia, one sister-in-law, Estelle Chandler (Pete's wife), of Crossett, grandsons, Kody Scott, of Colville, Washington, and Cody Chandler, of Booneville, Indiana, granddaughters, Ronda Stano, of Tucson, Arizona, and Casey Miller, of Booneville, Indiana, three great-grandsons, Tyler Stano, Mason Stano, both of Tucson, Arizona and Jaxton Miller of Booneville, Indiana, nephews, Larry Chandler, of Magnolia, and Bill Howie, of San Jose, California, nieces, Ina McCalister of Cabot, and Kathy Chandler, of Augusta, Georgia, as well as numerous grandnephews and nieces, great-grandnephews and nieces, and great-great-grandnephews and nieces. "Mr. Bill" enjoyed teasing the fish, visiting with his "RAG's buddies, serving with a VFW chapter, singing with SPEBSQSA Quartet and Chorus," (especially singing bass,) talking with friends and neighbors, and bird watching from his own front porch swing. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Arkansas Food Bank Network, The Rice Depot, or Briarwood Baptist Church in Cabot. Services will be held 6 p.m., Wednesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170. His family will receive his guests from 5 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
