Albert L. Garms

Albert L. Garms, 90, a resident of Elmcroft of Sherwood, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2011. He was born in Little Rock to Carl L. and Frances Ladd Garms and was raised there, graduating from Central High School. He was a member of Lifeline Baptist Church for 54 years. As a young man impressed by the large army convoys passing through Little Rock during World War II, he enlisted in the Army, served in the Pacific and behind the front lines in supply and ordinance. He also served during the Korean Conflict. Upon retirement from the Postal Service, he volunteered at the Reynolds Center on Aging where he was in charge of the medication samples for six years. He had a long career of service in the Masons, and later at the Scimitar Shrine Temple. He was also active with his wife in the Eastern Star and the Lions Club. Preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 52 years, Eunice Porter Garms, he is survived by his brother, Charles C. Garms and wife, Dorothy of Sheridan; his sister, Mrs. Hugh D. Steffy of Chandler, Arizona; nieces and nephews; and Maxine Rockwood, his close friend and companion and her family. The family wishes to thank Dr. Patel and Dr. Remerus and the staff of the 3rd Floor of Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock and the staff of Arkansas Hospice at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock for their compassionate care of Al.
