Carles Lee Franklin

Carles Lee Franklin, 74, of Ward, died Tuesday, September 20, 2011. He was born April 27, 1937 to the late Samuel Leonard and Ila Belle Pressley Franklin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard and Eldred and one sister, Verdie. Carles served first in the U.S. Navy then in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam and many other regions of the globe. During his esteemed career, he was the recipient of two Silver Stars, the Legion of Merit, a Bronze Star and four Purple Hearts. He was a former commander of and very active in the Disabled American Veterans and Viet Nam Veterans of America, serving all veterans in need. Carles is survived by his wife, Reubena Donovan Franklin of Ward, two sons, Andrew Lee Franklin of Bay City, Texas and Robert Winfield Franklin of Katy, Texas, two grandchildren, Melisa and Robert Franklin, II. of Katy, Texas; two sisters, Mary King and her husband, Barry of Ohio and Rosie Lea White of Phoenix, Arizona, and a beloved sister-in-law, Patsy Jardine of Daleville, Alabama. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 22, from 7-9 p.m. in the chapel of Moore's Cabot Funeral Home. Graveside services are 10 a.m., Friday, September 23, at Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery in North Little Rock, with Pastor Mark Brooke officiating.
