Sadie Finch Shumate, 88, of Jacksonville was called home to Heaven Tuesday, September 20, 2011. She was born in Lonoke County on April 28, 1923 to George and Dora Finch. She was one of eleven children. She was preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings, and her husband J.D. Shumate. She is survived by her sons, Dan Shumate (Linda) of Cabot and Johnny Peters (Betty) of Jacksonville; Six grandchildren, Kenny Fox (Mary), of Jacksonville, Stephanie Whitman, of Jonesboro, Scott Shumate (Viri) of Houston, Texas, Stuart Shumate, of Cabot, Spencer Shumate of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Billy Stephenson, of Little Rock, and Viki Vinson of Beebe; and five great-grandchildren, Justin Fox, of Jacksonville, Chance and Molly Brooks, of Jonesboro and Sydney and Dylan Shumate, of Cabot; two brothers, Earl Finch, of North Little Rock and Wayne Finch of Millington, Tennessee. She was a lifelong member of Church of the Nazarene in Jacksonville and was a member of Concord Senior Citizens at Furlow. She was a strong woman who set an example for others in her church, family and community. She was always willing to help those who had a need. She worked for Jacksonville Schools for many years, then retiring from Maybelline in 1986. Her whole life she loved fishing at Peppers Eddy, where they had a cabin. She enjoyed her flowers and mowing her yard. In her later years, she went to Jacksonville Senior Water aerobics and enjoyed playing a weekly game of dominoes with her friends. She loved spending time with her grandkids and a surprise 80th birthday treat was a ride on a Harley. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Hospice Home Care for their gentle loving care. Memorials may be made to the Church of the Nazarene in Jacksonville. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday at the Church of the Nazarene, Loop Road, Jacksonville with Rev. Ron Riddle officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Arkansas Memorial Gardens, Hwy 161, North Little Rock.
