James Roy Monroe Carmack

James Roy Monroe Carmack of Little Rock, Arkansas was born 29 September 1941 to the late Monroe and Dorothy Carmack, passed away on 21 April 2012. After serving in the United States Army for 20 years, he retired and moved his family back to Arkansas where he went on to be elected as Montgomery County Sherriff 6 times. James and his wife then moved to Little Rock where he worked with the Criminal Justice Institute, then finally the Pegasus Foundation. He is survived by wife, Lavern Guthery-Carmack of 51 years from Little Rock, Arkansas; son, Russell and wife Lorri from Oden, Arkansas and grandsons, Gregory and Aaron; son, Aaron Scott of Oden, Arkansas; son, James Steven and wife Jodeen of Dixon, Missouri and granddaughter, Amanda and husband Caleb Frazier of Fairbanks, Alaska, grandson Mathew Carmack and wife Chelsea of Aviano, Italy and great-granddaughter, Chloe; along with four sisters, six brothers, nieces, nephews, relatives, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Dorothy Carmack. Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 25, 2012, 1 p.m. at Mount Olive Cemetery in Oden, Arkansas with Brother Rusty Lewis and Brother Kyle Cowart officiating under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena. Family and friends visitation will be Tuesday, April 24 from 6-8 p.m. at the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
