Jerrell N. Barnes of Little Rock, Arkansas was born October 5, 1931 in Sheridan, the son of the late Preston and Myrtis Johnson Barnes. He was a Baptist, served in the United States Navy and was owner/operator of Barnes Tree Service, which he was still active in. He was known as "Tuffy" while growing up in Sheridan and enjoyed hunting, and especially fishing. He loved to share a smile and a laugh and his nieces and nephews have fond memories of the times he spent with them and for being a special part of their lives. Probably, his favorite past-time, was being a sprint car pusher at I-30 Speedway, where he was known by regulars as "Doc." Mr. Barnes died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock at the age of 80. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence, Fred, Vernon, Dean and Rommy Barnes and sisters, Ruth Posey, Edwina Koonce, Fay Fikes and Marjorie Atchley. Survivors: sister, Barbara Sue Barnes McBeth of Little Rock and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan with Bro. Michael Walton officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery, near Sheridan. Visitation: 6-8 p.m., Tuesday. Arrangements by Memorial Gardens Funeral Home of Sheridan (870) 942-1306.
