Lorene Morgan Coddington, 92, of Roanoke, Va. went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Preceding her in death were her husband of 75 years, Willis Coddington, and their infant son. Left to cherish her memory are three daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Glen Toms (Roanoke, Va.), Sandra McCaslin (Birmingham, Ala.), Camille and James Glazebrook (Roanoke, Va.), 10 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mildred Spell (Jackson, Miss.), brother, Bobby Joe Merritt (Cabot, Ark.), sister-in-law, Betty Rains, (Dermott, Ark.) and numerous nieces and nephews. Before moving to Roanoke in 1995, she was a resident of Eudora, Arkansas for 60 years. Lorene was a gifted seamstress, who also worked as a reporter for the local newspaper. She worked along side of her husband in their television business for several years, then later worked for and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. She was an excellent cook and an avid bible student. Lorene had a strong faith in God, and served him in many ways throughout the years. She was involved in the life of her community, and was a long time member of the Eudora Baptist Church where she taught missions and Sunday School classes for over 50 years. She was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke, Va. A memorial service honoring her life will be held Saturday September 1, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Ave. conducted by Dr. Bryan Smith and Rev. Charles Krause. Private family interment will be held at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel at 9 a.m. for one hour prior to the service at 10 a.m. The family wishes to thank Richfield Recovery and Care Center, especially the staff of 2E for their dedication to and tender care of Lorene in recent years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any remembrances be made to the "Future Generations Now" fund at First Baptist Church, 3rd. and Luck Ave., Roanoke, Virginia 24016.
