Lottye Delois Barnes Short, 87, of Bigelow passed peacefully from this earth and entered her heavenly home yesterday, August 29, 2012. She was a gracious, loving, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. Her life was a witness of love and kindness, and she will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. Born April 17, 1925, in Alcorn County, Mississippi to Jessie L. and Emily Viola Barnes, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Bigelow. Together with her husband, Cecil W. Short, they owned and operated Short Mercantile in Bigelow for many years. She later retired after several years from Conway Human Development Center. She is preceded in death by parents, Jessie L. and Emily Viola Barnes, husband, Cecil W. Short, and siblings Richard Barnes, Lee Barnes, Hazel MacDonald, Mildred Coln, Jessie Parker, Bertha Calhoun, Marybelle Wood, Essie Barnes, Jane Russell, and Lena Curtis. She is also preceded by a special granddaughter, Charlotte Stone. Survivors include four children, Robert Short (Pam) of Gulfport, Mississippi; Vicki Allen (Richard) of Bigelow; Loretta Davenport (Wayne) of Little Rock; and Gary Short (Susan) of Maryville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Kim Griffith (Lance); Mary Kathryn Eddy (Doug); Brian Davenport (Brooke); Amanda Short and Allison Short; Anthony Carter (Rene'); and Nicholas Carter; great-grandchildren, Anna and Chase Griffith, Raegan, Anniston, Skye, and Gracie Davenport; and a host of special cousins, nieces, and nephews. Pallbearers will be Ray Short, Archie Short, Gerald Wood, Bill Short, Bill Wright, Terry Hood, Al Garrett, Jr. and Jacob Grant. The memorial service, conducted by Reverend Victor Sheldon, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. Family visitation will be on Friday, 6-8 p.m. at McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. 501-327-7727.
