Horten Donald Hurn, 89, of Hensley, Ark., died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012. On Dec. 12, 1923, Horten Donald Hurn came into this world in St. Louis, Mo. and gave life his all until he breathed his last on Dec. 28, 2012. With a cool confidence and his slick, black hair, many knew "H.D." Always the loudest man in the room, talking or laughing or flirting, he gave new meaning to "never meeting a stranger." At 17, H. D. ran off and joined the Navy and after serving in WW2 he moved to Little Rock and worked for his father's business, Superior Spring Company or North Little Rock for 26 years. In 1946, H.D. managed to capture Christine Hurn and she has supported him for 66 years, and has survived him. After his father died, H. D. ran off and started his own business, Hurn's Superior Alignment in Little Rock and worked with his son and wife for many years. Officially retiring in 1986, there was never a fish safe when he was near water. Battling one cancer after another he was constantly surprised to live 89 years. H. D. often said, "if I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself." He was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes (LeBrier) Hurn and Orville Ray Hurn; his daughter, Alice Martin; brother, Roy Hurn; and sister, Juanita Wright. His wife, Christine Hurn survives him in death as well as his son, Donald Hurn and wife, Nancy. He leaves behind sister, Betty Kaplan; grandsons, Benjamin Hurn (Heather), Paul Hurn, (Holly); granddaughters, Jennifer Hurn, Hannah Paulling (Sam), and Amanda Dean (Frank); as well as great-granddaughters, Lauren and Mackenzie Tracy; son-in-law, Billy Martin, and family and friends. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home Chapel, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock, Arkansas (501-791-7400).
