Equilla Gray Walls, 89, of Detroit, Mich., departed this life January 25, 2012. She was born in Bigelow, Ar on November 2, 1922 to the late Herschel Harvey Gray and Mary Dockery-Gray. After graduating from Lincoln High School in Fort Smith, AR, she went to Seattle, Washington to work at Boeing Aircraft as a Buckler and Riveter until the end of World War II. She joined friends in Detroit, Mich. and worked as a beautician and later as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She graduated in the first class of Emergency Technicians for the City of Detroit. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvester Walls, of 45 years, of Woodson, Ark.; son, Alvin (Jean) Walls; two sisters, Carry Gray and Blanche Gray Mayes (Robert). She is survived by her daughter, Vickie Walls (Darnell) Slaughter, two sons, James Walls and Lawrence Walls and three daughter-in-laws; her siblings, Rev. H.O. Gray (Lula), Mrs. Cozetta Gray Guinn (Isaac), Dr. Viola Gray Ellison (Dr. Joseph Ellison, deceased), Mrs. Doretha Gray-Stewart (Curtis, deceased) and Vera Gray Randle (Joe). She leaves behind nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were 11 am Thursday, Feb 9, 2012 at Bethel AME Church in Bigelow, Ark. Interment will be 11 am today at AR State Veterans Cemetery in NLR, Ark. Arrangements entrusted to Larry G.
