George Elmer Carnes, 77, died Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Baptist Health-Stuttgart. George was born June 21, 1934, in DeWitt to George Pruitt Carnes and Mary Bell Broadwell Carnes. He was a farmer who worked every day of his life, an avid scrapper and member of Harmony Baptist Church. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Al Carnes; and two sisters, Maryanna Womack and Nancy Thomas. Survivors are his wife of 37 years, Marylyn Rhodes Carnes; three sons, Kevin Finley (Trisha) of Cabot, George Eldridge Carnes (Julie) of Muskogee, Oklahoma, and Darren Finley (Stacie) of Malvern; four daughters, LaVada Carnes Pense (Kim) of Mannford, Oklahoma, Shan Finley Ward (Craig) of Slovak, Tammie Carnes Fischer (Helen) of Skillman, New Jersey, and Mary Carnes Kobbe Childers (Bobbie) of Mt. Airy, Maryland; one brother, Robert Carnes (Mildred) of Stuttgart; one sister, Anna Robinson (Nick) of Pine Bluff; one sister-in-law, Kathy Spears of Rison; 20 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. David Inzer, are 1 p.m., Wednesday at Harmony Baptist Church with burial in DeWitt Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 p.m., Tuesday at Turpin Funeral Home.
