Mrs. Virginia Susan "Sue" Henderson, 73, of Pine Bluff, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012 at the St. Vincent Arkansas Hospice Center. Born Aug. 1, 1938, in Forrest City, Ark., she was the daughter of Joseph and Cortez Washington. She was reared and received her education in Pine Bluff, Ark. She graduated from Arkansas Mechanical and Normal College in 1960 with a degree in Home Economics. She was married to the late Edward "Ed" Earl Henderson Sr. She taught in the public schools of Arkansas for over 33 years. She was a member of New Hope CME church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Cortez Washington and one sister, Ethel Blood. Sue is survived by one brother, Joseph (Dode) Washington of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one sister, Mayotis Robinson of Memphis, Tenn.; two sons, Earl (Cynthia) of Pine Bluff, Ray Henderson of Boston, Mass.; and one daughter, Virginia Cortez of Pine Bluff. She leaves five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 23, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the St. James United Methodist Church, located at 900 North University Drive, with the Rev. Henry "Hank" Wilkins officiating. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove section of Graceland Cemetery. Visitation services will be held from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at the New Hope C.M.E. Church located at 901 East 21st Street, Sunday, July 22, 2012. The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., will conduct their "Ivy Beyond the Wall" salute at 5 p.m.-6 p.m. at the aforementioned location.
