J.M. (Mon) Cochran, 101, of Carlisle, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at his home. "Mr. Mon" was the owner of the Carlisle Cash Store and a journeyman butcher. He worked for Arkansas State Rice Mill and retired from Rivianna Foods at the age of 65 and he really enjoyed his 36 years of retirement. Mon was also retired from the Carlisle Volunteer Fire Department, a Mason, a member of the First Baptist Church, loved to hunt, fish and garden and share the bounty of his garden. He really enjoyed his great-grandchildren and was looking forward to the new great-great-great grandchild. Mon never missed a basketball, football, or baseball game in which they participated. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Cochran and a granddaughter, Kim Watkins. Mon is survived by one son, Ray Cochran of Cooper, Texas; two daughters, Mona Sue Cato of Hurst, Texas and Marilyn Miller of Carlisle; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Carlisle. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Carlisle Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Carlisle. Arrangements are by Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen.
