Joyce Lorraine F. Nichols, 77, of Little Rock a retired educator, departed this life Monday, June 25, 2012, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Little Rock, Ark., May 18, 1935 to Otis and Vallee Nichols. Joyce accepted Christ as her personal savior at Collins Street Baptist Church (New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church). As a lifetime, devoted member, she was active in many ministries, especially the music ministry. She was a pianist, soloist and often directed various choirs and always served relentlessly whenever asked. Joyce graduated from Dunbar High School (which included grades 7-12 at that time) the class of 1952. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Lincoln University in Missouri. Additional graduate hours were earned at the University of Arkansas. She was a classroom teacher in the Little Rock School District and Fairbanks, Alaska and retired after 35 years. Joyce predeceased by her parents and brother, Otis S. Nichols, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving God son, Edwin L. Jordan; two grandsons, Eddrick and Edgerrin; sisters, Billye J, Black and Ramona R. Watts; nephews, Eric L. Jordan, George H. Richardson and Ralusrai Richardson; niece, Yolanda R. Guevara and children of the nephews and nieces; her church daughter, Jacquelyn Irby; her God family, the Reeds; Ken, Ursula, Tymberli, Aundra, Kenndryk and Jordan; and a host of other relatives and friends. Home going services will be Saturday, June 30, 2012, 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Haven of Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, June 29, 2012, 6-8 p.m., both services at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, 1700 South State St., LR, Ark.
