Joel Neal Ferguson

Mr. Joel Neal Ferguson, 80, of Dewitt, Ark. passed away November 21, 2012. He was born December 9, 1931 to Finis and Dicie Ferguson. He was 2nd Lieutenant Tank Battalion in the U.S. Army After graduating from the University of Arkansas with a Masters in Botany, he was County Extension Agent for several counties finishing his career as Arkansas County Staff Chairman. His career lasted a total of 40 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Lions Club, Dewitt City Council and First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed the Razorbacks, Dewitt Dragons, hunting, fishing and cooking. He also loved playing football with his grandson Ben, and reading books with the granddaughter Samantha Jo. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mavis (Mabry) Ferguson of Dewitt, Ark., daughter Stace Mixon and husband Randy of Atlanta, Ga., son Sam Ferguson and wife Suzanne of Maumelle, Ark., brothers: Thad Ferguson and wife Camilla of Conway Ark., Vincil Ferguson and wife Joy of Carlisle, Ark., Owen Ferguson and wife Iris of N. Little Rock, Ark., sisters: Cathryn Northcutt and late husband Willard of Fort Smith, Ark., Doris Lloyd and late husband Bill of Van Buren, Ark. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rosalie Humway and husband Jim. Pallbearers will be Don Mabry, Rick Mabry, Larry Noles, Wayne Duncan, and Jeremy Duncan. There will be a graveside service Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Reed Cemetery in Story, Ark. at 2 p.m. There will be a memorial service held at a later date at the First United Methodist Church of Dewitt, Ark. Services will be held under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home of Mt. Ida, Ark.
