Elmer T. "Piggy" Pruitt

Elmer T. "Piggy" Pruitt of Gurdon passed away quietly in his sleep April 24, 2013 with his family by his bedside in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Piggy was born September 7, 1919 on a farm near Gurdon. He graduated from Gurdon High School in the class of 1939. He was a retired conductor/yard master for the Missouri Pacific Rail Road having retired in 1979. He was known over the mopac for his superb switching skills. T/SGT Pruitt was a WWII Veteran, where he served with the 732 Rail Road Battalion. He served in the Phillipine Islands and later in Seoul South Korea, where he was the senior yardmaster of the large Seoul railway yards, in charge of moving the Japanese out of South Korea by rail to the ports. Mr. Pruitt is survived by one son, Joe Pruitt of Gurdon, a daughter Hilda Wingfield (Ray) of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, one grandson and six granddaughters, four great grandsons, five great -granddaughters and three great-great-granddaughters. He is preceded in death by his parents Will and Rosa Pruitt, three brothers and one sister, his wife Fairy Pentecost Pruitt, his daughter Pam Kirksey, his second wife, Callie Terry Pruitt and his great grandson Matt Turner. Graveside Service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. with Bro. James Guthrie Officiating in South Fork Cemetery near Gurdon, Arkansas, under the direction of Pharr Funeral Home of Gurdon. Take the Gurdon exit off I30 and turn Left, take the first Left by the motel. The cemetery is one mile ahead on the Right. Memorials may be made to the South Fork Cemetery Fund.
