Jerry Thomas

Jerry Thomas, 60, of El Dorado, passed away Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at his residence. He was born Nov. 26, 1952, to Earl L. and Deloris Lamb Thomas in El Dorado, Ark. He married Elizabeth "Libby" Nethery Thomas on Oct. 5, 1973. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church, a graduate of the Garland County Community College, and founder of the JT Deer Club. Jerry served the City of El Dorado and Union County well. Jerry retired from the El Dorado Fire Department as Assistant Chief, after 27 years of service. He also served as Chief Deputy of the Union County Sheriff's Office for 7 years, and was currently employed as Director of Emergency Service of Union County. He was a former member of the El Dorado Police Department Reserves and was a former member of the Police Department Pistol Team. Preceding him in death are his daughter, Kelly Elizabeth Thomas; mother, Deloris Lamb Thomas; sister, Billie Gail Thomas Wood; and niece, Kimberly Wood. Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Libby Thomas of El Dorado; father, Earl L. Thomas of El Dorado; brother, Donald Thomas and his wife Virginia of Cabot, Ark.; sister, Patricia Gibbs and her husband Tommy of Hot Springs, Ark.; aunt, Betty Jo Voorhies of El Dorado; cousin, Mary Jo Williams of El Dorado; three nephews; and three nieces. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Young's. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at Parkview Baptist Church with Rev. Lyle Hern, Rev. T.C. French, Jr., and Rev. Tommy Robertson officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors. Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry James, Jerry Barksdale, Joshua "Bo" Rumph, Steven York, Ronnie Langley, Bob McDaniel, Rod Peevy, David Morgan, Jesse McKinnon, and Bruce Woolsey. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the active members of the El Dorado Fire Department, retired members of the El Dorado Fire Department, and all Union County Employees.
