Photo of Deane Gerald Baldwin
Dr. Deane Gerald Baldwin of Little Rock was born March 19, 1932, in Huntsville, Arkansas, on a cold March night, to Deane Chester Baldwin and Margaret Carmack Baldwin. Since the baby weighed less than three pounds at birth, the country doctor laid the baby aside to save the young mother. An attending nurse, detecting signs of life, warmed the baby, Deane, in an oven and he lived until February 25, 2013, approaching the age of 81 years. He graduated from Catholic High School in Little Rock, University of Central Arkansas, in Conway, The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and the University of Arkansas Medical School. He was a much beloved pediatrician in Little Rock, founding, with two other pediatricians, The Little Rock Pediatric Clinic. In 1958 Dr. Baldwin married Judith Garrett, who survives him. This union produced four daughters: Gretchen Lynnwood (Arthur Hall), Lauren Elizabeth (John Andrew Agar), Anne-Leslie Baldwin and Amy Susan Baldwin. Dr and Mrs. Baldwin have four granddaughters: Holly Elizabeth Hall, Ellen Garrett Simpson, Leslie Allen Lasiter, and Elizabeth Hannah Lasiter. He is also survived by his aunt, Mrs. Helen Reeves of North Little Rock, Arkansas and her family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Holy Souls Church, Tyler & I Streets, Little Rock at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 with Fr. Phillip Reaves as celebrant. A Rosary will precede the celebration of the Mass at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Dr. Baldwin has chosen to be cremated, with a private family interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Francis A. Allen School for Exceptional Children, 824 N. Tyler St., Little Rock, AR 72205 or a charity of your choice.
