Mrs. Opal Calvert Stewart, age 96, of Forrest City, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. Mrs. Stewart was born June 19, 1916, in Dawson Springs, Kentucky. She moved to Forrest City in 1945, when she married the love of her life, the late Neuman Stewart. She taught eighth grade English in Forrest City Public Schools for 28 years. Her love of teaching and of her students was evident to those who were fortunate enough to have been guided by Mrs. Stewart. She had many friends from all walks of life and was blessed by their love and support through the years. She found special joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved gardening and always enjoyed sharing the bounty of flowers and produce with friends. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Neuman Stewart, by her parents, Finas Calvert and Rosa McNeely Calvert, and three siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Rita Stewart of Little Rock, and Judy Stewart Lyle and her husband Ray. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Ashley Littman (Mike), Susan Smith (Deron), and Elizabeth Fowler (Jason), and by five great-grandchildren, Maddie Littman, Jack Littman, Zach Smith, Darby Smith, and Elin Fowler. Her family was the most important thing to her and she was thankful for the gift of love that they shared each day. Her family would like to thank friends who were such a support during her illness. They are especially grateful, to her loving caregiver and friend, Polly Simmons, and to Dr. C.D. Williams and Lori Holden. Services for Mrs. Stewart will be held Graveside, 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, 5 till 7 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home with Stevens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. You may log on to stevensfuneralhome.net for the on line registry.
