Nell Maurine Russell Miller, age 79, passed away on Saturday, November 23rd, 2013. Nell was born on September 26, 1934 and was the only child of the late Nettie Virginia Russell and V.C. Russell. Nell was born in Marianna, Arkansas, attended high school in Paragould and went on to attend William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri. She moved to Dallas where she worked for Continental Airlines as a flight attendant for three years. She met and married Dr. John D. Miller in 1954 in Brinkley, Arkansas. They moved to Helena, Arkansas in 1964 where she continued to live until her death. As a small business owner, Nell was very active in the business community in Helena. In 1967, Nell opened Nell Miller's Fashions for the Ladies women's apparel store that she operated for the next 46 years. Nell became the first female president of Phillips County Chamber of Commerce in 1980 and was recognized as the US Small Business Administration's Women in Business for Region VI in 1981. She was on the planning board for Phillips County Community College and active in Arkansas Parks and Tourism. Outdoors and travel were Nell's passion. She enjoyed time at her condo in Destin and spent many hours walking on the beach. She also loved to ballroom dance and was known to be spontaneous and would pick and go at a moment's notice. Nell survived by her three children, John D. Miller, Jr. (Julie) from Little Rock, Maurine Bailes, from Hot Springs and Richard Miller (Karen) from Fort Worth, Texas. Nell also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, Kipp Coco (Amanda), John and Jordan Miller and Madison and Hallie Miller. She also has two great grandchildren, Jack and Emma Coco. Nell will also be missed by her precious Shih Tzu, Marley, her constant companion. Services will be Wednesday, November 27th at 10 a.m. at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, West Helena. The family will host visitation Tuesday evening at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. The family wishes to thank all of the nurses and physicians who provided such comforting care for her at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock.
