Lorraine Annie Duce

Lorraine Annie Slaughter Duce, age 97, of the Caddo Valley Community near Arkadelphia passed away Friday, April 18, 2014 in Arkadelphia. She was born April 9, 1917 to Ilmon and Dicie Rabjohn Curtis and was the last surviving of nine children. She was a retired seamstress with Levi Straus and Oberman's Manufacturing in Arkadelphia. Lorraine was a longtime member of Arkadelphia Church of Christ and was one of the first members in the early church. Lorraine was a foster grandparent at the Arkadelphia Human Development Center for 35 years. She was the oldest foster grandparent and held the longest tenure in the country. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Dean Slaughter and W. O. "Shine" Duce, a step-son, Bob Duce, two granddaughters, Teresa Bear and Dena Porter, and a great-grandson, Josh Slaughter. Survivors are one son, Roy Slaughter and wife, Barbara of Caddo Valley, two daughters, Nelma Porter and husband, Elton of Alexander, Evelyn Sisk and husband, Joe of Olive Branch, Mississippi, one step-daughter, Pat Moorman of Arkadelphia, four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandsons. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 21st at Arkadelphia Church of Christ with Jim Buie and Andrew Sherrill officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Arkadelphia Human Development Center Volunteer Council P.O.
