Derol Bernell Treat

Derol Bernell Treat of Searcy died July 15 at the White County Medical Center after a brief illness. The son of George Mason and Mozella Margaret Baker Treat, he was born in Spring Valley, Arkansas on April 3, 1937, the eighth of 13 children. As a young man, he joined his brothers William and Elton in Albuquerque, New Mexico, working with his brothers in the service station business and racing stock cars. Returning to Searcy, he was in the service station and car sales business for more than 40 years at Treat Brothers' Champlin, Capps Motor Company, A&M Motors, and as an independent wholesaler. An avid hunter and fisherman, he covered the state with his brothers and friends hunting quail and turkey and fishing many of the state's rivers and lakes. He was a dedicated member of the Pine View Church of Christ for more than 25 years. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth; one son, John, of Fayetteville; two brothers, William of Searcy and Cleve of Pangburn; one sister, Fern Pledger, of Searcy; 39 nieces and nephews; a large extended family; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann; eight brothers; and one sister. A visitation will be held at the Searcy-McEuen Funeral Home on Friday, July 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 19 at the Pine View Church of Christ with interment to follow at the Taylor cemetery.
