Virginia Myrick Huffman

Virginia Myrick Huffman, 97, of Richmond, Va., formerly of Blytheville, Ark., died May 21, 2014. She was predeceased by her husband, Alvin Huffman Jr. She was born in Bentonville, Ark., spent her formative years in Memphis, Tenn., and lived most of her life in Blytheville. She was a graduate of Hutchison School in Memphis and Blue Mountain College in Mississippi. She was always interested in learning and served as a substitute teacher in Blytheville and was a member of several book groups. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Blytheville where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and a strong supporter of every activity which involved her husband and children. To illustrate the vitality of her life, living in Memphis at over 85 years of age, she was a volunteer at Baptist Memorial Hospital, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, Dixon Gallery and Gardens, and the Rock 'n' Soul Museum. She is survived by her children, Alvin Huffman III of Fairhope, Ala,, and Emily Huffman McLeod of Richmond, Va. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Laura Huffman Byrd of Columbus, Ohio; Edward Gholston Huffman of Darien, Conn,; John Huffman McLeod of Middlebury, Vt.; and Virginia McLeod of Richmond; and her great-grandchildren, Edward and William Byrd; Benjamin, Andrew, Nicholas, and Jane Huffman; Elizabeth and Andrew Jones; and Henry and Calder Birdsey. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church in Blytheville. Visitation will precede the service at 10 a.m.
