Virginia Turner Smith

Virginia Turner Smith, best known as "Granny Gin", age 83, joined her Heavenly Father and reunited with her late husband, Guy R. Smith on June 23, 2014. She was born on July 19, 1930 in Stephens, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dee and Buck Turner, her brother, John David Turner, and her granddaughter, Virginia Dee Bonds Story. Virginia was a devoted wife and mother, adored by her loving family. She leaves behind her children; Richard T. Smith of Hot Springs, Roger G. Smith and wife, Julia of Magnolia, Dee S. Bonds and husband, Paul of Magnolia and Dana S. Hunt of Hot Springs, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Granny Gin was a beautiful, gracious, Southern lady, who never met a stranger. She shared her love, affection, generosity freely, touching lives wherever she went. She was a best friend, confidante, mentor, and prayer warrior to so many. Her infectious and uplifting spirit brought much joy and happiness to those around her. Virginia was strongly committed to her church and her community. She received many awards and much recognition for her hard work and dedication. She considered her small hometown "The Capitol of the World." The family wishes to thank special caregivers Butch Wyrick and Lorean Daniels for their loyalty, dedication, and many days of service during Mrs. Smith's time of need. Proctor Funeral Home in Camden is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 25 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Stephens with Bro. David Moore and Bro. Cedric Walters officiating. Following the service there will be a private burial. Pallbearers will be Butch Wyrick, Guy R. Buck Smith, Zac Story, Tanner Story, Smith Bonds, and Mark Carpenter.
