Mary Deniston Reid

MARY DENISTON REID, 81, of Jacksonville, Ark. passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on June 24, 1932, in Detroit, Mich., to the late V.W. and Freida Stokes Deniston. After graduating from Rector High School she attended Arkansas State University where she was a member of ΑΟΠ. She went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree from Delta State University. She taught school for over 35 years, at Jacksonville Elementary from 1983-1997, and as a substitute at Murrell Taylor, Pinewood, and Arnold Road Elementary on L.R.A.F.B. before retiring. She was the First Lady of Jacksonville from 1983-1987, as well as an active member of Second Baptist Church in Jacksonville, regularly singing in the choir. She had a love for music, especially the piano, and loved her collection of dolls and her four puppies. Mary is survived by her husband, James Reid; children, Julie Ann Foley and husband Patrick, Ruth Jane Beaver, Jo Sara Walker and husband Mike, Eva "Denise" Hoggard and husband Glen, James L. Reid and wife Cissy, David G. Reid and wife Teresa; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Lynn and Martha Crowe Pruitt; as well as two special nieces, Ginny and Mary Beth. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home (501)982-2136. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Second Baptist Church in Jacksonville with Dr. Steve Walter, Bro. Ron Raines, and Bro. Royce Lowe officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Park. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to Dr. Rebecca Stone and Dr. Elizabeth Gath, as well as the staff at Arkansas Hospice.
