Alice Bernice Slayden

Alice Bernice Slayden, age 81 years, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 28, 2014. She was born to Bessie and Charlie Stracener and was raised in England, Arkansas and was a member of Landmark Baptist Church. She attended college at Arkansas Teachers College for a period of time. Afterwards, she went to work at Philmade Lingerie Factory in England, Arkansas and worked there until it closed and when it reopened as a Shoe Factory she worked there. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, LD King and Harold Slayden; daughter, Barbara Ann Combs; son-in-law, Billy Combs. She is survived by one sister, Margaret Slayden of England; one brother, David Stracener (Johnnie) of Coy; sons, Larry King (Tracy) of Redfield, Charles King (Nadine) of Morrilton; grandchildren, Krista Wilson (Ryan) of Whitehall, Joshua King (Kristy) of Bonnerdale, Michael Combs of Houston, Texas, Jeffrey Combs of England, Farrah Winkler of Marion; great-grandchildren, Landon Glover, Layton Wilson, Avah Lynn Wilson, Sawyer King, Emily Banks, Austin Banks; and her very special friend, Carolyn Lawson of Hamburg. Bernice loved spending time with her family visiting, cooking and having family gatherings. Her favorite times of the year were Thanksgiving and Christmas, when everyone would come to her house to visit, eat and make special memories. She also loved reading, watching television and talking with her friends on the telephone. Anytime family would go visit her, you couldn't sit down until you had given her a hug and that hug and kiss were repeated when you left. She was a wonderful Mother, grandmother, friend and loved her family very much. The family would like to thank White Hall Nursing Home for their love and care for her. Visitation will be held 6-7:30 p.m., Thursday, October 20 at Roller-England Funeral Home in England, Ark. Funeral services are 1 p.m Friday at Roller-England Funeral Home.
