Meriwether Lewis Garing

Meriwether Lewis Garing Sr., 87 – died 01/16/2015. Born in New Orleans, La., and is survived by his three children: Meriwether Lewis Garing, Jr., David Bennett Garing, and Katrina Blake Garing. He is the son of the late Frances Cleo Meriwether Garing and Robert Foster Garing. He was preceded by his second wife Maxine Connevey Garing and survived by his first wife Marilyn Kaye Brownfield Garing Cochran. Following graduation from Little Rock High School, he entered the navy and was stationed aboard the USS Missouri. After the war he then entered the University of Arkansas where he majored in Chemistry and was initiated into Sigma Chi Fraternity. As a member of the track team he excelled in pole vaulting with a 1949 Southwest Conference Championship, the same year he graduated. Benton, Ark. and Corpus Christi, Texas became his primary residences while working with Reynolds as a chemist for 30 yrs. He and Maxine retired to Holiday Island, Ark. in 1984. Meriwether never met a stranger and was loved by all. He will be missed and will always remain in our hearts. Memorial services will be held graveside on Thursday, April 30 at 10 a.m. at Eureka Springs Cemetery, Eureka Springs, Ark.
