Robert Donald "Don" Stafford

Robert Donald "Don" Stafford of Patterson, Arkansas, died peacefully at home on December 2nd, 2015 at the age of 87, following a brief illness. He was born on March 28, 1928 in the Tipp Community of Woodruff County. Don graduated from McCrory High School, attended ASU in Jonesboro, and served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Commonwealth Insurance Co. in Memphis, where he worked for more than 25 years. After retirement, he happily returned to Woodruff County where he worked on a farm and fed his catfish every day until he was 85. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood cutting, and gardening. He served on the Patterson City Council for over 30 years and was very active in community service. Don was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in McCrory. Don was a friend to all who knew him and had a positive attitude and joy for life. Most of all, he was devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Helen Stafford. Survivors include his daughter, Sheila Rogers and husband Allen of Oakland, Tenn., daughter Marsha Stafford of McCrory, Ark., Terri Anderson and husband Neal of Orlando, Fla., and daughter Lori Cain and husband Bari of Searcy. He was blessed with five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday, December 4th from 5-7 p.m. at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in McCrory. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 5th at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Fakes Chapel Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of McCrory, 300 N. Fakes, McCrory, Ark. 72101.
