Harold "Hal" Lewis

Harold "Hal" Lewis, 80, of Conway passed away on Jan. 30, 2015. He was born Sept. 10, 193, in Manila, Ark. to the late Frank Garfield Lewis Sr. and Exie Stutts Lewis. Harold is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, JoAnn Lewis; brother, Frank Lewis Jr. and sister, Frankie Gains. After Harold finished his service in the U.S. Army, he went on to earn a Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas. He leaves behind a legacy of academic service as a professor in Texas, North Carolina, Tennessee and Arkansas. Doctor Lewis' contributions to the United States cotton industry cannot be overstated. Hal's favorite pastime was working the land. Survivors include two sons, Frank Bric Lewis (Kerry) of Conway and Thomas B. Lewis of Jonesboro. Harold is also survived by three grandchildren, Briah Lewis, Lisa Henry and Jacob Henry. He is additionally survived by two brothers, Jack Lewis of Dell and Bobby Lewis of Imboden. A memorial service will be held at the Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Chapel of Conway on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to UAMS Cancer Center Research.
