Bama Marie Simmons, 74, of Bald Knob, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the White County Medical Center in Searcy. She was born August 5, 1940 in Sheridan, Arkansas to the late Jahu and Sallie Ann (Stoudamire) Compton. Bama was a member of the St. John Baptist Church in Augusta. She has worked for Land O' Frost, General Industries, Bald Knob School District, Brown and Roots Pipeline Company and Timex. She also obtained her degree in meat processing. She enjoyed spending time at the Bald Knob Community center with her friends. She loved attending church, was always friendly, she enjoyed life and never met a stranger. She is survived by her children, Glenda Hunter, Doris Scott (Don), Richard Lever, Lisa Jenkins all of Pine Bluff, Rodney Lever (Leila) of Memphis, Tenn., Penny Comer (Tony), John Jennings Jr. and Jerald Lever all of Bald Knob; siblings, Willie F. Compton of Pine Bluff, Queen Hardwell-Strayhorn, McKinnley Compton and Dorothy Rahman all of New York; 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Charles Compton; one grandchild and one great-grandchild; two husbands, Amertis Lever and Willie Simmons. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home-Bald Knob. Services will be conducted Saturday, February 28, 2015, 10 a.m., at the St. Johns Baptist Church in Augusta.
