Dorothy Raby Shockley

Dorothy Raby Knight Shockley, 91, of Benton, Arkansas, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at the VA Hospital in Little Rock. She was born March 19, 1923, in Hickory, North Carolina, to George W. and Leota Green Raby. She graduated from Hickory High School and attended Duke University. Mrs. Shockley served in the United States Navy during World War II. She had worked as a nurse for 30 years, before retiring from Jefferson Regional Medical Center in 1984. She was a member of First United Methodist in Bryant and a member of the Woodman of the World. She enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, reading, growing flowers and watching the birds. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Knight and Hendrix Shockley; a child, John Knight; her parents; sisters, Mary Patton, Ella Cilley, Elizabeth Triol, Ruth Fulkerson and Edna Bain. Survivors include her sons, Bob Knight, Ken Knight both of Bell, Florida; daughters, Barbara Knight of Texas, Janet Parson and husband, Jim of Bryant; stepson, Michael Shockley and wife, Phyllis of Texas; step daughter, Lila Loveless and husband, Kenny of Hot Springs; brother, Bud Raby of Hickory North Carolina; sister, Nancy Compton of Hickory, North Carolina; twenty one grandchildren and forty great-grandchildren. Funeral will be 2 p.m., Saturday, January 3, 2015, Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Larry Donaldson officiating.
