Margaret King Cowan, 93, of Fort Smith died Jan. 7, 2015 in Fort Smith. She was born May 1, 1921 in Clarksville, Ark. to Argus Irl and Iva Esther Gammill King. She was retired from the Fort Smith Public School System after serving 14 years as a teacher for Raymond Orr School. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Alpha Delta Kappa, Retired Teachers Association, the Colonial Home & Garden Club and a Life-time member of the P.T.A. She is survived by one daughter, Kathryn and husband, Bruce Rice of Fort Smith; three sons, David and wife, Terry Cowan of Little Rock, Ark., Donald K. Cowan of Dallas, Texas and Kenneth and wife, Susan Cowan of Fort Smith; one brother, David and wife, Pat King of Fort Smith; six grandchildren, Patrick and Sarah Cowan, Kendall and Daniel Rice and Rachel and Phillip Cowan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Audra M. Cowan and two brothers, Bill and Cecil King. Funeral service will be Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015 at 10 a.m. in the Central Presbyterian Church, with burial to follow at 2 p.m. in the Oakland Cemetery in Clarksville, Ark. all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
