Lloyd G. Bowen

Mr. Lloyd G. Bowen, resident of Augusta, Arkansas went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, January 27, 2015. He was 79 years of age. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Thursday , January 29, 2015 at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in McCrory. Funeral services were Friday, January 30, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Augusta with Bro. Tommy Miller, Mr. Bobby Bowen, Bro. Max Sharp and Bro. J.D. Stake were the speakers. Interment was in Augusta Memorial Park with Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home Directors in charge of arrangements. Lloyd was born in Tupelo, Arkansas on September 1, 1953 to Chester and Agnes Gipson Bowen. He attended school in Augusta and was married to his childhood sweetheart, Lottie Hawks on August 4, 1954 who survives. Lloyd has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Augusta since 1969 and loved to serve his Lord. He has served as a teacher of the "Fisher of Men" Sunday School Class and chairman of Men's Brotherhood at First Baptist as well. Lloyd was involved in the Augusta Lions Club and Augusta Boy Scouts as scout master. His family was chosen Farm Family of the Year in Woodruff County in 1963. Although he was a retired farmer. Lloyd Bowen had other business interests over the years. He and Lottie were in the florist business in Augusta for 29 years. He was a rural letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for a while. Lloyd owned Lloyd Bowen Trucking Co., owned Augusta Heat and Air and was founding member of the Augusta Farm Supply and later managed it. After winding down from all this, he occupied his time by driving a patient van for ARCare in Augusta. Other than being with his family, Lloyd loved to fish and always claimed to teach others HOW to fish. He loved Taylor Bay and spent many days there fishing and having fun. Lloyd loved life and loved the people he was around, never meeting someone he couldn't talk to. He and Lottie loved to travel and took several trips to other countries and spent several winters in south Texas meeting many friends along the way. Survivors include his devoted wife, Lottie, two sons, Bobby Bowen and wife, Joy Lynn of Augusta, Larry Bowen of Benton, three grandchildren, Olivia Anderson and husband Todd, Brenn Bowen and Slade Bowen, two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Carly Anderson and one brother, Raymond Bowen and wife Barbara of Augusta. Pallbearers were James Hicks, Doug Rutledge, Terrel Gipson, Kenneth Bryant, Frank Swanson, Tony Woodruff, Randal Spray and Mickey Kreis. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Fisher of Men Sunday School Class. The family has requested memorials be made to St. Jude's in Memphis or to the donor's choice of charities.
