Johnny Theo Shepherd

Johnny Theo Shepherd of Sheridan, Arkansas was born November 9, 1940 in Sheridan, the son of the late Ersel and Pauline Hamner Shepherd. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Sheridan, and was a retired sales manager. Johnny graduated from Sheridan High School in 1959, and later attended Arkansas State Teacher's College (UCA today), where he was a member of the football team and president of Sigma Epsilon fraternity during his senior year. Upon graduation in 1963, he moved to Missouri where he taught art and drafting and began the art program at Raymore Peculiar Missouri High School as well as coached football. He later moved to Hot Springs to teach and coach Jr. High football, and then finally moved back home to Sheridan, where he taught, and was both assistant high school football coach, as well as head Jr. high football coach. Johnny enjoyed being a part of the Sheridan Senior Golfers, Sheridan High football and drinking coffee and visiting with his friends daily. Mr. Shepherd died Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Hospice Home Care in Little Rock at the age of 74. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Andrea Lane Shepherd, his twin brother, Robert Leo Shepherd, and brother, Jack McCool. Survivors: wife of 55 years, Luvonia Childers Shepherd of Sheridan; son, Yancee Shepherd (Danie) of Gresham, Oregon; daughter, Joni Wagner (Larry) of Sheridan; sister, Sue Atkinson of Bakersfield, California; grandchildren, Britney Dienstag, Taylor and husband Conner Nemmert, Courtney Wagner; great-grandson, Carson Nemmert. He is also survived by a host of other family members and many friends. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Arlis East officiating. Burial will follow at Lost Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
