Hugh Scott McMahen

Dr. Hugh Scott McMahen passed away peacefully June 10, surrounded by his family. He was born in Walkerville, Ark. on March 26, 1935 to Rowe Glen and Esther (Hughes) McMahen. Dr. McMahen served the Magnolia Hospital as Chief of Surgery for 38 years, retiring in 2005. Dr. McMahen also served the outlying hospitals of Lewisville Ark., Haynesville La., Homer La. He was a lifelong Presbyterian, serving as Elder, Trustee and Adult Sunday School teacher in the First Presbyterian Church-Magnolia. Dr. McMahen was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Scott Alan McMahen, brothers, Dewey Wayne, Rowe Gene, and Charles McMahen and by sisters, Dixie McMahen and Francis Jones. He leaves behind a loving family including his wife of 56 years, Rochelle Genestet McMahen, daughters, Kelly McMahen of New Bern, N.C. and Michele Clark and husband Tom of Searcy, brothers-in-law, Philip Genestet and Lamar Jones, sisters-in-law, Belle and Sandra McMahen, three nephews and five nieces. He will be greatly missed by extended family, friends, patients, colleagues, and many of brothers and sisters in Christ, all of whom held special places in his life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church-Magnolia, Columbia County Community Foundation, Magnolia Regional Medical Center Foundation, American Parkinson's Disease Foundation, John R. Williamson Hospice House, or one of the colleges he attended. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church-Magnolia on Saturday, June 13 at 10 a.m., reception following.
