Nadira Filat

NADIRA FILAT, referred to as Owma by her grandchildren, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning in Little Rock while in the company of her family. She was 81. Born on June 7, 1934, Nadira grew up in Jerusalem, Palestine where she met her loving husband, Mustafa Filat. There she survived multiple wars. Having lost so much – family, her home, etc. – she nevertheless survived, persevered, and never lost her strong faith. In Chicago, she lovingly raised her four children. Anyone close to Nadira would tell you that her children were her crowning achievements. She loved them more than life itself. She witnessed her children graduate from college, get married, and raise their own families. Every step of the way, she was involved in each of their lives. Even in her final months, she made it a point to speak with her children daily. Nadira was blessed in this life with four amazing children: Sueha Filat Alami, Ishaq Filat, Iyad Filat and Mona Filat Khairi. She also leaves behind six beautiful grandchildren: Adam Alami, Summer Khairi, Mustafa Filat, Ramsey Khairi, Danna Filat, and Malik Filat. She is survived by her beloved sisters and brothers: Sameya Barakat, Lalia Hindiyeh, Ghada Barakat, Jawad Barakat, Mohammad Baker Barakat and Yasser Barakat. To Allah we belong and to him we return.
