Janis Angeline Cantwell, 68, of Searcy, died June 11, 2015. She was born November 8, 1946, the daughter of John and Opal Cantwell. Janis attended Searcy High School graduating in 1964. She then attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where she earned a BA and MA in English. After a brief move to Boston, Massachusetts, Janis returned to Searcy for her mother's final illness then returned to Fayetteville to earn an ED Sp degree in media and worked on a feature film. She followed the filmmakers to LA and worked on commercial, film and TV projects ending at KTTV Metromedia as Production manager and crew scheduler for all the Norman Lear comedies. Yes, she worked with Archie, Meathead, etc. She met Henry Fonda wandering around the lot looking for the stage he was supposed to be on. Janis moved back to Arkansas to teach at UALR in the Radio-TV-Film department and supervise University Cable stations. In 1989, she moved to Searcy to help with her father's final hours. After working as marketing/PR Director for Central Arkansas Hospital, she worked freelance on media and writing projects. She semi-retired to the home where she grew up and enjoyed hearing about the diverse and interesting lives of all her SHS classmates. Memorials may be made to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Searcy. Graveside Memorial services will be Thursday, June 18 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens at 11 a.m. Cremation arrangements by Powell Funeral Home of Searcy. www.powellfuneralhome.net.
