George E. Parks, 78, of El Dorado died Feb. 27, 2015. He was born Aug. 6, 1936 near Lisbon, Ark. to Edward Parks and Dolly Darden Parks. He was the youngest of 10 children. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, William Birch Parks and Hubert Parks, and sisters Aileen Parks, Morine Parks, Flora Dee Harper, Joyce Howser, Norma Hollingshead, and Margaret Marzelle Trotter. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Jones Parks; a sister, Mildred Taylor of North Little Rock; his children, George Pete Parks (Renee), Janet Nesbit (Richard), Melanie Parks, and Rhonda Bailey (Tommy), all of El Dorado; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. George was a retired, independent oil producer, timber farmer, and merchant. He and Carolyn founded Parks Country Store in 1969 and operated it together until 2000 when his daughters took over. He wore many hats during his life, including advertising manager for the El Dorado News-Times and timber buyer for many local timber companies. He and Carolyn loved to travel and spent most of every fall traveling the western United States. George was a member of Dumas Memorial United Methodist where he was baptized on the same day his triplet grandchildren were christened. Visitation will be held from 5:30-7:30 Monday, March 2, 2015 at Perry's Funeral Chapels. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 3 at 2 at Dumas Memorial United Methodist Church.
