Regina Zakrzeski Slayton

Regina Zakrzeski Slayton , 88, died in Memphis, Saturday, February 28th. Regina was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on October 4, 1926, the daughter of John and Katie Zakrzeski. During World War II, she worked as civilian support at Camp Robinson in Little Rock. In the 70's she was very active in fundraising for St. Jude's Children Research Hospital and worked for Pat Parker Personnel and later for Business Equipment Center. Regina was a member at Church of the Resurrection. She was preceded in death by her husband, John (Jack) M. Slayton, daughter, Cindy Slayton Long and husband Pat, son, John M. Slayton III, brother, Vidack Zakrzeski and sister, Frances Schmidt. She is survived by her son, Richard H. Slayton and wife Susan of Collierville, Tenn., her brother Edmond Zakrzeksi of Malvern, Arkansas, five grandchildren, Shannon Haynes and husband Loren, Carrie Long and fiance' Jason Denison, Jennifer Slayton and fiancé Duke Leyman, Chad Long and fiance' Mary Ellen Tabor and Melissa Slayton and six great-grandchildren, Camille Long, Maddie Dickson, Ella Cate and Henry Haynes and Brett Tabor and Deegan Long. Regina, affectionately know as "Mimi" had a kind, loving spirit; all who knew her loved her. She was everyone's Mom - always ready with sound advice, a smile and a big hug. Mimi was proud of being independent at the age of 88, still driving and taking care of herself and even had her own Facebook page. She will be greatly missed by family and friends, but our loss is heaven's gain. Visitation will be held at the Collierville Funeral Home, 534 W. Poplar Avenue, Collierville, Tenn., Sunday, March 8, 2015, with visitation beginning at 12 noon, followed by the service at 2 p.m. The interment will be Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 10:30 a.m., at the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Road, Memphis, Tenn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
