Doyne Carroll Clem

Master Chief Hospital Corpsman, Kentucky Colonel, wordsmith and world traveler, Doyne Carroll Clem, of North Little Rock, passed away on Feb. 27 in Conway. He was 78. In a Navy career spanning five decades, HMCM (SW) Clem served on four continents including a tour with the First Marine Division during the Battle of Hue City where he earned the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat "V," the Navy Combat Action Ribbon and a Presidential Unit Citation. He later became the first Hospital Corpsman to wear the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist insignia, earned an MBA from the University of Arkansas and concluded his illustrious career as the Command Master Chief of the US Naval Hospital in Naples, Italy. Most notably, he married the former Judy Diane Christopher of Asheville, N.C. in 1962 with whom he shared his love for world travel, history, language and adventure. He is survived by his three children, Faith, Nona and Damian; a grandson, Kenneth; three great-grandchildren; and four siblings. He will be laid to rest at 10 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, Ark. Memorial services are under the direction of Griffin Leggett Conway Funeral Home. The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to The Disabled American Veterans.
