Anne G. Burdick, 99, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, died on March 12, 2015. She was born June 28, 1915 to Dr. Charles and Ellie Mae Gray in Waynesboro, Mississippi. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. Alger E. Burdick; daughter, Patricia A. Shy. Survivors include son, Gray Burdick (Carol) of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; son-in-law, Bill Shy (Mary) of Hot Springs Village; grandson, Gregg Shy (Deena), their son Riley, and her children Tristan, Tiffani and Ryan, all of Bossier City, Louisiana; grandson, Todd Shy (Kathryn) and their sons Chase and Will, all of Suwanne, Georgia. Anne moved with her family to Pascagoula, Mississippi at age 11 and enjoyed her growing up years on the gulf coast. She often spoke of bird hunting and fishing with her daddy, and proudly exclaimed how she (all 90 pounds of her) knocked the referee down while playing basketball. She attended College at Arkansas State Teacher's College (now University of Central Arkansas) in Conway, Arkansas (where her "Uncle Mac" was president). While there she was selected president of the Student Council and was elected as one of the college's outstanding students. In her senior year, she met her future husband, Alger, while as a student in his class (had to get permission to date from her Uncle Mac, the president – caused a bit of an uproar from the other students). After marriage and a year in New York city where her husband furthered his education, they moved back to Conway where Anne lived for 65 years before moving to Hot Springs Village in 2005 to be near her dauther Patti. She loved church and always proudly proclaimed herself to be a "Baptist." She loved feeding the birds and working with her flowers, but she had a particular zest for bridge and felt as if she was having a really bad day if she wasn't playing. She never met a stranger and became known as "Miss Anne" and "Grannie Anne" around the Village as she often gave away her "old fashioned sugar cookies." She was P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) and a life member of the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries. A memorial service celebrating Anne's life will be held at Balboa Baptist Church, Hot Springs Village at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 21. Guests may register at www.caruth-hale.com. Memorials may be made to the Balboa Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, at 415 Ponce de Leon Dr., Hot Springs Village, Ark. 71909, or the Burdick/McAlister Scholarship Fund at the University of Central Arkansas (contact the UCA foundation at 501-450-5859 for phone donation or mail check to the UCA Foundation, P.O.
