Mamie Estelle "Maddox" Daves went home to her Lord on March 28, 2015 at the grand age of 95. She was born in Faulkner County near Mt. Vernon on March 5, 1920. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Walter and Minnie Maddox; her husband, Russell E. ‘Utchie' Daves; her daughter, Barbara Ann Cullum; three brothers: Pierce, Barnell, and George Maddox; and two sisters, Bronnie Jones and Odell Hubbard. She is survived by her son, Ken (Brenda) Daves, Sr. of Wynne, Ark.; her son-in-law, Mike Cullum of North Little Rock, Ark.; her brother, Buford Maddox of Batesville, Ark.; three grandsons: Tim (Shannon) New and Randy (Lisa) New, both of Quitman, Ark. and Ken (Lori) Daves, Jr. of Benton, Ark.; three granddaughters: Lisa (Bruce) Barker and Angie Palmer Lett, both of North Little Rock, Ark. and Whitney Daves of Wynne, Ark.; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren, plus a host of nieces, nephews and many, many friends. Mamie was a life-long resident of Quitman, Ark. and a member of the Quitman Methodist Church. For many years, she was employed by the Quitman School District as a cafeteria cook. Mamie loved God, her family, quilting, and working in her flowers. At the age of 13, she and some members of her family, as well as some close friends, sang in a traveling gospel band, "The Soul Stirring Band". They traveled over much of the state singing for the Lord, many times singing on the radio, usually after her dad had preached. She wrote many songs during her lifetime all about "going home"! Her love for God often found her saying that she wasn't afraid of dying. After all, she would say that she knew where she was going, and there was no reason to be afraid. She lived her life with a quiet dignity and had the assurance that her heavenly father had prepared a mansion just for her. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Quitman Methodist Church with Rev. David Caswell officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. with interment in the Quitman cemetery. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, www.olmstead.cc.
