David Ross McDonald Sr.

David Ross McDonald Sr. was born December 26, 1930 in Plano, Texas to Layton Ward and Arkie Adora Wright. He graduated from Hot Springs High School in Hot Springs, Arkansas in 1949. David served his country in Europe in the US Army from 1950-1952, attaining the rank of Corporal. With the help of the GI Bill, he attained his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Arkansas in 1957, following with graduate studies at TCU in 1968, and the University of Houston in 1980. He received the prestigious PiKA Scholarship Award in 1957. David retired from a very successful 28 year career at CONOCO Oil Company in 1985, rising from roughneck management trainee to serving as President of CONOCO Western Pacific. David married his first wife, Alice McGinnis McDonald after graduating college, they had a long and fruitful marriage, that ended all too soon with her untimely death in 1988. David married Jeanne McDonald on August 11, 1990, a union that brought 25 years of new joy to their combined and growing families. David is survived by Jeanne of Houston, Texas, and their five children, and 10 grandchildren. Son, Colonel David R. McDonald Jr. (USA retired), of Pembroke Pines, Florida, and his wife Dr. Gulay McDonald, Ph.D., and their childre,n David Ross McDonald III and Sarah Patricia McDonald. Son, Donald Layton McDonald and his wife Joan of Avon, Conn. and Bellevue, Wash., and their children Donald Layton McDonald, Ross John McDonald, Amanda Alee McDonald and Ian McGinnis McDonald. Daughter, Alice Chernov McDonald, and her husband Denis, and their children Patty Chernov and Cora Chernov. Ashley Cavanagh, of Cedar Park, Texas, and her husband Dr. Andrew Cavanagh, MD, and their children Nate Cavanagh and Katie Cavanagh. Son, Dr. James Underhill of Austin, Texas. David was the memorable combination of a unique individualist who was also friend to all. A proud, positive and devoted father, husband, friend, business leader, and veteran; he led by example at all times and we all are richer for it. Graveside Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2015 at Fayetteville National Cemetery under the direction of Moore's Funeral Chapel in Fayetteville.
