Vernis L.Thompson, 95, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, May 10, 2015. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 68 years, Doris (Crone) Thompson, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vernis was born January 20, 1920 in Mabelvale, Ark. to James B. and Lilly L. Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister and daughter, Karen Sue Thompson. He is survived by his wife, daughter Pamela Lee of Conway, sons Tommy (Kaye), Doug (Joyce) and Kevin (Tara) of Mabelvale, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Thompson served 2 years in the Civil Conservation Corps building the national park at Mt Rushmore followed by 6 years of active duty in the US Navy during WWII. He retired from Alcoa after 30 years as an electrical supervisor and then continued serving the community through his own business L&D Heating & Air for many more years. Vernis had an unsurpassable work ethic that he passed along to his children along with many trades and skills. Mr. Thompson was a life-long member and deacon of Life Line Baptist Church and served on many mission trips with Camper's on Mission. His life was dedicated to The Lord and his family. Many family memories were made traveling, camping, fishing and hunting. He was, by far, the most wonderful loving family man who enjoyed providing for his family while wholeheartedly serving God. There is no doubt he will be greeted by The Lord with "Well done, my good and faithful servant." He will be greatly missed by his family, but because of the faith filled legacy he left to us we will all be reunited with him for eternity in heaven. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Life Line Baptist Church. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Life Line Baptist Church, 7601 Baseline Road Little Rock, Arkansas 72209 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Life Line Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery. Please leave the family your condolences at Vernis' online guestbook at www.griffinleggettforesthills.com.
